Saturday August 17 ... More of St. John's and on to Heart's Content

After a hearty breakfast, Harry, Melanie and I took a walk from Lynn's to Lawrence Pond.  What a perfectly magical spot...just about 15 minutes down the road from Lynn's we came upon a little pond (looked to us like a small lake) and the water was clear and clean and scattered all around the small body of water were homes and cottages.  One even had a float plane parked on the edge...right beside his boathouse that appeared to be falling into the water!  Photos always paint a better picture than I can so here they are...

And this is just a boathouse...you should have seen the house...unfortunately trees hid most of it so we didn't get a good photo! :)

When we returned to Lynn's it was time for a quick lunch and then we gathered the troop and headed into St. John's to walk around down town.  Lots more history in the centre of town ...

Lots of the buildings date to the late 1800's and many have been beautifully preserved and are now used for a variety of purposes...

This first photo is of the Supreme Court of Newfoundland...

We are fans of the CBC show Republic of Doyle and I could swear I have seen the street below on an episode of the show...

Mel, Rob, Amelia and Harry and I headed for George Street, while the others went for coffee.  George Street is a well known and loved spot for night life...lots of bars and clubs on the street.  In the daylight it was pretty quiet but at night we were told it really gets hopping!

By this time we were ready to go to the bike shop to pick up the blue machine and head for Heart's Content.  It was about an hour and a half drive out to Nellie's and Ralph's home in this lovely village of 205 people.  We loved the names of the villages....Heart's Conent, Heart's Delight and Heart's Desire. We understood clearly why these places were thus named...there is a feeling of peace and calm and slower pace of life here that's very appealing.

Nellie's and Ralph's home is on a hill overlooking the ocean...this is a view from their front window...

Supper was delicious...steak, moose sausage, port chops and an assortment of yummy salads...macaroni, potato, jelly and tossed.  Dessert was a double delicious treat of lemony goodness cheesecake and carrot cake with cream cheese.  Aftere dinner we were so stuffed it was all we could do to haul ourselves to the couch for some visiting and then to bed. :)

Lots more planned for tomorrow...so til then...
