We knew we couldn't do all three scenic drives in the time we had, so decided to take the central loop...so headed towards Cavendish. On the way we passed by Dalvay Beach and took photos and smelled the sea air and watched the whitecaps on the water.
Our initial impressions of this island paradise remained...
... The tidiest yards imaginable with acres of well groomed lawns
... Brilliantly colored flower beds
... Gently rolling landscape dotted with farms and fields of grain and potatoes
... Vistas of the Gulf of St. Lawrence in all directions
... Surprisingly uncrowded...even at the amusement park in Cavendish across from Avonlea (too commercialized for me)
... Here are some other miscellaneous photos that will demonstrate in some small way the other sights we encountered today...
The only downside to the day was the wind...I felt at times like a bobble head doll on the back of the bike. As you can see from this photo the wind was strong enough to blow what little hair I have left around! :)
Just before crossing over the bridge off the island, we stopped at the tourist info place and watched a fascinating 20 minute video outlining the construction process for the bridge...a truly remarkable feat! I have a fact sheet (left in a cubbyhole in the bike) with stats if anyone is interested in knowing more of those details...
In all we spent about six hours here before heading for our evening's stop in Truro. I would love to return and spend a couple of weeks exploring the entire island...it's on my trip to do list!
On our way into Nova Scotia we spotted a field of wind turbines...which I think are some of the most artistic creations around...got some surprisingly good photos whizzing by on the bike...
Til the next time...happy trails!
